All wood needs taking care of; most of our pieces are produced from 'green' timber (timber which is unseasoned) or only partly-seasoned timber. In these cases the wood will continue to dry out over a period of time and further cracks and splits will undoubtedly occur; this is an intentional part of the piece and only adds to the overall character. Occasionally wet patches can appear on the floor underneath where the furniture has stood, as the oak dries. This is only temporary and we advice as a precaution, to protect your carpet or flooring, to place either a piece of polythene or place spacers underneath. Placing furniture very close to radiators or strong heat sources is not recommended. Centrally-heated environments which are quite dry will cause timber to dry quicker. In these instances we suggest regular waxing; especially during the first year, ensuring plenty of wax is applied to end grain. If the piece is produced from oak, and intended for outdoor use, no treatment is necessary. Please ensure there is sufficient air circulation as no air may cause mould, should mould occur this can be washed off with warm soapy water. This is only a temporary measure and precautionary. We cannot be held responsible for failure to take note of the aftercare advice given.
Most of our coffee tables have been finished with a hard natural wax finish. The only aftercare required is to dust them as you would normal furniture and apply furniture wax/polish as and when required. Some pieces may have been stained and then waxed, but require the same treatment. Although the surfaces are waxed, unless requested otherwise, they will still stain easily from hot cups or spilled wine; care should be taken to protect the surface with coasters etc. . Care should be taken when moving any pieces of our furniture as most of them are very heavy.
Due to the nature of the product and the materials used, some initial casting of fibres may occur. A light vacuuming on receipt will eliminate most loose fibres and shedding. We do supply Faux Fur throws that can be washed but we highly recommend that all throws are DRY CLEANED ONLY. They require careful treatment afterwards to brush and restore the pile. The larger sizes are much too heavy to comfortably handle once wet and will cause damage to washing machines because of their weight and bulk. Further information is given on the product page for each individual design.
For those throws that are washable, set your machine for the coolest & most delicate setting with a medium spin cycle. Only use a mild detergent recommended for delicates. Let the throw dry naturally on a flat surface. Do not tumble dry. Any kind of excessive heat will cause damage to the fibres. Any throw that can be machine washed can also be hand washed. Use a soft brush to gently separate the fur whilst still damp, restoring the pile. Faux Fur throws must not be ironed. Please note we cannot be held responsible for any damage caused to your faux fur throw if you do not clean in accordance with our advice.
Most cushion cover designs can be machine washed following the same advice as for some of our throws. All can be hand washed and we advise with tepid water & mild detergent for hand washing, do not rub or ring. Do not tumble dry. Do not steam or iron, do not bleach. Our advice after hand washing is to reshape the cushion cover, taking care not to damage it, lie flat on a towel and let it dry naturally. Do not hang on a washing line. Brush or comb lightly whilst still damp to restore pile.
Take a minimum amount of care and should last you a life time if looked after properly. However, they are not intended to be used in high traffic areas; if they are, hairs will begin to break off and after time the base hide will be exposed. We advise you to take your rug outside and shake it occasionally to remove any loose hairs. You may gently vacuum over your rug but take care over the edges. Neither cowhides nor patchwork cowhide rugs should be allowed to get wet. If something is spilled on them it is advisable to immediately sponge the area with clean warm water and a gentle detergent, then leave to dry naturally. Do not attempt to wash any of the rugs, either in a washing machine or dry clean them. Do not use chemicals to clean them unless you have obtained professional guidance.
Do not take much looking after, try not to get your rug wet but if you do, just let it dry out naturally. To keep if looking good you can brush the pile with a wide tooth comb or soft brush. If you do soil or get dirt on your rug, we advise that you leave it to dry and brush it out. With regards to spillages we advise a damp cloth and a mild wool detergent to dab out. We highly recommend that you DRY CLEAN ONLY.
If you decide to wash your rug, set your machine for the coolest & wool setting and no hotter than 30 degrees. Only use a mild detergent recommended for wool. Let the rug dry naturally on a flat surface. Do not tumble dry. Do not place on a radiator to dry. Use a soft brush to gently brush whilst still damp. The backing (leather) of the sheepskin rug will most likely become stiff if washed. Please note we cannot be held responsible for any damage caused to your rug if you decide to machine wash your rug.
Are low maintenance, take your rug out side and gentle shake it, if you wish to vacuum, this must be done gently using the brush tool. Do not place your rug near heat sources like in front of a fire or a radiator; this may result in the rug drying out causing the hairs to become brittle. We highly recommend you DRY CLEAN ONLY. Please note that reindeer hide rugs are not intended for heavy traffic areas and hairs will undoubtedly begin to break off if walked on regularly.
